The American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) is a national organization of orthopedic surgeons specializing in sports medicine, including national and international sports medicine leaders. The AOSSM works closely with many other sports medicine specialists and clinicians, including family physicians, emergency physicians, pediatricians, athletic trainers and physical therapists, to improve the identification, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of sports injuries.

But in 1948, a group of scientists and physicians came together to take action against this condition called arthritis. Perhaps heartened by breakthroughs in medicine, this community of scientists envisioned a day when a cure for arthritis would be discovered and the millions of people with arthritis would no longer suffer. Their actions resulted in the formation of the Arthritis Foundation
